It was at the beginning of August 1939, that the first office of Bank of Ceylon (BOC) opened. This was known as Sri Lanka's first state owned commercial bank situated in Fort, Colombo. Subordinated debentures rating of BBB+ (lka) by Fitch Ratings Lanka Ltd.
