On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Elysée Treaty, the French and German governments created the Centre Virchow-Villermé for Public Health. It responds to the desire to pool knowledge and combine competencies in the field of Public Health. In associating Sorbonne Paris Cité and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, it is the objective of the Centre to become an important point of reference in the field of Public Health. The Centre Virchow-Villermé is working on three major axes: · Education: The Centre produces MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses), which offer free access to university level courses covering many different topics in the field of Public Health. · Research/Big Data​: The Centre is favouring the development of research on health services, healthcare systems and proof based prevention; research is aimed at the transformation of the health field through the processing of masses of data. · Global Health – The Centre develops expertise on Global Health through the World Health Summit (Berlin) and the World Health Organization (Copenhagen and Geneva). 14 collaborators are working everyday on the development of the Centre. Since its creation it has welcomed many international researchers coming from well-known universities in France, Germany and the United States of America. By establishing industrials partnerships contracts it developed already two international chairs (Sanofi and Celtipharm). In addition it will also apply for government funding for future projects which would thus be supported at the highest level by the two states.
