简介 | Village Inc. Africa (‘VIA') developed a model of training and coaching that supported rural Village Companies (VCs) in creating home building businesses. Over 200 fundi's and 50 village leaders from 10 villages were trained in manufacturing quality housing components made of local materials, building quality homes, and starting up and managing businesses. We followed Tanzanian law for the curriculum development to assure that our learners could secure work anywhere, with a focus on best practices in Tanzania blended with proven methods from North America and Europe. Collaboration: VIA - VCI - JSBC - VCs Assisted by a locally-led Village Company Incubator (‘VCI'), and by a training organization/quality auditing team (JSBC), the qoal to improve social and economic conditions in rural villages in Sub-Saharan Africa in the most dignified and effective way - by training, investing, and assisting village communities to build and govern their own Village Company (‘VC'). Through this collaboration, we support incorporating construction companies which through their scale and inter- and intra village sourcing, thus lower costs of the homes, increase village employment, stimulate village economies and address a number of SDGs. VIA is a winner of the 2014 SEED Award Entrepreneurship in Sustainable Development. This UN-affiliated annual awards scheme is designed to find the most promising, innovative and locally led start-up social and environmental enterprises in countries with developing and emerging economies. An international jury of experts selects enterprises which have the potential to make real improvements in poverty eradication and environmental sustainability while contributing to a greener economy. We were also recognized by the Tanzanian Government as one of the most innovative home building models in Tanzania and featured on national TV. |
