The Democratic Caucus in the Michigan State Senate is currently 20 Senators strong, supported by nearly 100 staff members. We've put the people back in power. We lead with a #MajorityForThePeople working to tackle the issues most important to Michiganders. That means fighting to protect our freedoms, from the freedom to decide if and when to grow your family, to the freedom to vote and have a say in the decisions that impact your life. It means investing in our students, schools and the educators who work tirelessly to inspire and prepare our young people to pursue their dreams. It means ensuring everyone can afford the prescription medications they need to live long, healthy lives. It means creating better jobs with stronger paychecks and ensuring everyone has the freedom to take time off to care for a sick loved one, without having to choose between their job or their family. It means fixing Michigan's crumbling roads and infrastructure. It means ensuring that Michigan — the state that put the world on wheels — leads the way into our electric future. It means making sure every family's drinking water is safe from toxic chemicals like PFAS and lead, and that children have clean air to breathe, no matter their ZIP code. It means preserving the Michigan way of life by protecting our natural areas, from our Great Lakes to the Porcupine Mountains and Belle Isle to the beaches of Grand Haven. We have a lot of work ahead of us. We were the first caucus in Michigan history to have an equal number of women and men lawmakers. Our Senators are gay, straight, Black, white, Afro-Latina, Asian-American, Jewish and more, and the staff who support our caucus further expand our scope of identities and experiences. Together, we will build the kind of Michigan that dignifies all of us by ensuring everyone across race, place and peninsula has a seat at the table.
